    WKA Scottish Kickboxing Championships

The classes are designed to help improve athletic ability for competition. The class will be structured to improve individuals whilst in a class setting. Dependent upon the competition cycle, focus will switch between strength and Power to Speed and Agility. Each exercise progression is based on a breakdown of the movements needed in the sport. Whilst competition fitness and techniques are important, this class is also designed to make each individual robust and injury prevention also plays a significant part of the class design. The lower age limit for this class is 12.  Consideration of age and physical development is of the utmost importance when placing young bodies through the stresses and strains of competition and fitness classes.  We will always consider where an athlete is in their growth pattern and are qualified to work with young children outwith Martial Arts. • Competition Sparring

Kickboxing, SFEAR, Lossiemouth, Moray, Elgin, Karate, Martial Arts, Competition Sparring - putting it all together! The Competition Sparring Class is for anyone wishing to compete and includes all age ranges. Before attending this class you must seek advice from Sensei Lahra.  The class is set up to help those who want to fight at any level of competition. The club often takes fighters through the full range of local competitions to international tournaments.  The sole focus of this class is to help fighters improve in a competitive environment regardless of level.  Sensei Lahra will develop each class to suit the individual, leading into given competitions and help the less experienced gain confidence  as they progress into this arena. For the more experienced it will include video analysis and feed back from peers within the group, as well as the coaching team.  The whole point of being in this class is to be better than your last fight! That means students have to be coachable.  Students must be willing to listen and be adaptable while receiving instruction and accept critiques on their fighting style.

    Open Sparring with Raijin, Inverness

Competition Sparring differs from club sparring greatly.  Competition sparring generally uses a handful of simple techniques and variations executed with speed and controlled aggression. The class helps fighters read basic 'tells' and indicators that fighters use to set up attacks and defend against them.  Whilst contact is controlled, we do develop body conditioning for the senior fighters in the group. Both Points and Continuous forms are practiced, dependant upon individual competition schedules.  During these classes students are encouraged to engage with each other and  the coaching group.  Students need to think, 'What did I learn, how do I use that to improve?' This principle ensures that both students and coaches maximise session effectiveness.

Teens & Adults KickboxingTeens and Adults Kickboxing is a joint group. We have an age range from 13 years old through to Senior Citizen. We have found that this mix of ages works really well for the group and each students takes a lot from it.  The syllabus is developed using current best practices from WKA and WAKO as well as having been scrutinised by three time WAKO World Champion Mieke Tate.  Each class is developed to help students progress through each belt in about three months. Our Black Belt test is run annually, which give students the extra time they need to prepare for this final grading, The Black Belt grading is conducted at the club by an independent assessor of at least 3rd Dan standard and for the last three years this has been done by Mieke. Like with the Samurai group, we split the class on a Friday into beginner/intermediate and advanced belt classes.  This allows students to receive more focused attention to their techniques as individuals, where on a Tuesday all grades work and support each other as they progress.  We have found that this mixture of classes really helps bring students on, as well as keeping a team and friendly atmosphere to the club. Friday Beginner / Intermediate Class - 18:15 Friday Advanced Class - 19:00 The Teens and Adults classes are very dynamic and great fun, as both groups progress towards their next belt through respect, physical challenges and development of their techniques, speed, co-ordination and stamina.  There is a wide variety of abilities and grades within these classes and we welcome all.  We encourage all our students to develop at a pace that is right for them. We are conscience that Teens and Adults have study, family and work commitments, therefore, everyone will grade at a different pace.

The Samurai (7 to 11 years old) group is a busy group that has kids of all abilities and levels (entry level to black belt) enjoying Freestyle Kickboxing. The classes are designed to continue the physical drills & skills learnt at a younger age whilst maintaining the ethos of mutual respect, self-discipline, resilience and teamwork.  Samurai also work towards there Black Belt at an advanced level. The syllabus is the same as the Teens and Adults.   Physical ability is taken into consideration during grading as children of a similar age can have quite different levels of development.  Like the Warrior groups we have three  Tag Tests and a Grading  every three months.  The Tag Tests are run during class time, are fairly informal and develop the confidence of the student leading towards their actual, formal Grading.  Children can join this class at any point within the age range. Mondays and Thursdays ate for Intermediate Belts and the Tuesday and Friday classes are for beginner belts.  The classes are split up to give each level appropriate instruction and supervision whilst maintaining good class sizes. At this age we also start to identify children who can take on the extra responsibility of being a STAR member. This entails leading groups within the classes and helping the instructor deliver the class. It is a great way to give a child extra responsibilities in a safe and controlled environment as they move up through their belts and prepare them for greater challenges.

The classes are based on the skills and drills of kickboxing, whilst instilling respect, self-discipline, resilience and teamwork and also developing Co-ordination, flexibility, Speed and a healthy apatite for Kickboxing and Fitness. The classes have to be fun, engaging and structured to ensure your child gets the most out of the sport and more importantly enjoys it. This is a vibrant class with a large range of abilities. The Warriors are tested through a belt system that eventually sees them gain a Junior Black Belt.  We run four Gradings a year with three Tag Tests between each Grading.  The Tag Tests are run during class times and are scheduled into the warrior programme.  The Gradings are run on a Sunday every three months, which gives plenty of time to hone and develop the skills to gain that all important pass.  Tag Tests show how the student is progressing towards their Grading.  Tag Tests are relatively informal and develop confidence leading into the formal Grading.

  • Zumba

ZumbaZumba is an aerobics fitness program that was created primarily by Beto Perez. Zumba originated in Columbia in the 1990s, when Beto forgot a CD for his aerobics class. He used one of his personal CDs (traditional Latin music) and taught a dance-style aerobics class on the spot. Zumba was born! Since then, it has become a crazy booty-shaking world phenomenon, with over 6 million participants taking classes each week. Our Instructor Joanna Scott is ZUMBA trained, endorsed and insured. She has been running classes at SFEAR since December 2014 and has also run a charity event for the Lady Bird Group in Lossiemouth at the club (check out our Facebook page for more information). There are no wrong moves in ZUMBA, just the extra ones you make up if you lose track! Come along and give it a go.
  • Health Camp

Health CampHealth Camp has a holistic approach to making those changes in your life that will last. Boot Camps are very well and good if you are joining the military or for a short hit of training and weight loss, but studies have shown that once you stop, the weight soon ploughs back on. They are also loved by trainers as they are cheap to run and very lucrative, but the high numbers in these camps often mean you will not be supervised correctly and your goals are often merged or forgotten into the groups need. Our Health Camp looks at your goals and aspirations and challenges you through progressive fitness, dietary advice and general life style coaching. We also have a qualified Chef Kerry Hooper who will give you tasters, recipes and advice on food preparation so that the healthy food choices are to your taste. Nutritional advice is given through Ross Holistic Nutrition (http://ross-holistic-nutrition.co.uk). Karen Ross will provide you with all the nutritional advice you need to ensure that you can make the right dietary changes for your goals. Our team are fully qualified to deliver the advice and develop the programme to your needs. We deliberately keep our numbers low so that we can focus on each individual and develop the programme to ensure your success. We also have a closed group so that the instructors and Health Camp members can chat as a team away from the club so as to develop your confidence and give mutual support. We are also able to help people with curtain medical conditions due to our REPs Level 3 GP Exercise Referral qualified instructor Lahra Guald. All our instructors are first aid trained, so you will all be in safe hands. For more information and course timings and costs please contact us by email at sfear.lossie@gmail.com or through our Facebook page or by phone on 07900906316.
